2022-03-24T12:26:43Z	A week after graduating, managed to pick up COVID which means I'm stuck at home. This gives me more time to pick up on my bash knowledge, as well as recap over networking and docker - then ill move on to a really deep dive into GoLang, Terraform.

I guess being sick has its advantages.

Currently using Zorin on my XPS - I often change between this and Ubuntu - which isnt good i know haha Distro Jumping. (I'm relatively new with Linux - but the more I use it, the more I love it!)

Main PC is still Windows, but this is where I learnt the most of the command line, using WSL.

Then I have a Macbook with the M1 chip that really doesn't see much use :/

Thanks again for all the responses! It's amazing to see how everyone uses some in similarity but then how different your choices are as well :)

Do you still game? If so how do you work around that? Would cloud services like geforce now appeal to you or would you prefer to game on instanced windows?

It seems that most Linux users, use their platform for the massive community input/development and the ability to customise it to their explicit taste.

I have recently completed a Coding Bootcamp that provided me with a Diploma of IT - that focused on the realm of Code, Cloud and Cybersecurity. (Basically Python, HTML&CSS, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes)

I understand there are many pathways into Tech/IT and with that, there are many certifications.

What would you consider certifications that are fantastic to show baseline knowledge and understanding? Some that would really help solidify and prove my knowledge/even upskill me from where I am.

Would anyone recommend the CompTIA certifications?

Then continuing on from base knowledge - which are some certs that you have completed and really felt fulfilled/proved that you solidly understand some area/aspect of tech after completing.

Also, have they helped with employability in your realm?

The only reason I finished it was to a lleast have one piece of paper saying that I'm semi capable in tech, lol. Because it's a bit rough trying to break into the industry when I just have medical/nursing degrees and certificates.

I do understand that having a collection of certificates can look bag, as it makes you look like more of an achievement hunter than anything.

I do have a question for both you and more so @<prologic https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>, when looking at candidates - if you're not looking at certificates per say. Are you more so looking how the person represents themselves before moving on to a technical/role specific interview?

Personally, I was once big into TCG(Trading Card Games)/CCG (Collecting Card Games) games and would make time twice a week to compete at local's/ mini-tournaments that worked well with my rotating roster.

Also, I love myself a bit of beach fishing, and travelling - not just interstate/around Australia - but also internationally.

Then my son was born, and this cheeky lil virus, threw a massive spanner in the works haha.

Never have I ever felt so beaten and belittled trying to get my foot in the door, I was approached by my colleges internship team in regards to an interview with a potential employer. Reluctantly said ok after finding out about the company.

Sat there for nearly 20 minutes being rather berrated that someone in his late 20's 'who's design and creativeness period could be coming to a close' wants to consider working for a 'start up'.

I don't, I just want my foot in the door.
