I hadn’t been following Hachette v. Internet Archive closely, so spent a few minutes listening to Brewster Kahle’s statement. It seems part of a larger issue of whether we can own digital content or will have to rent it. The Internet Archive is such a force for good, glad they’re fighting this.
@haglund I like that idea of an ocasional notification. It does add some costs which is why for now it’s only enabled at our Premium hosting level.
Watching some of the recent Microsoft Copilot demos and playing with Bing, I wonder what AI products they will roll out before everyone else can even attempt to catch up. Maybe a Microsoft voice assistant box? It would leapfrog Alexa and Siri.

@Miraz Thanks. Yes, it skips audio and video. Only HTML, CSS, and images are archived. I’m thinking for video maybe we lean on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Not sure.
I really enjoyed this episode of The Talk Show with guest Jason Kottke. Their talk of 404 links after years (and decades!) of blogging inspired me to expand our archiver in Micro.blog to make it easier to preserve a copy of web pages you link to. I recorded a YouTube video with the details.

@eshwarnag It’s mostly a redesign, with new tabs and navigation that is consistent across iOS and Android. No new features yet but some things will just work better.
The new beta of Micro.blog for iOS is coming along really well. We’re at the point where I can see the finish line, and I’m comfortable punting some more features into the next update.

@fahrni There’s no Blogger import, so you’d need to get the posts in another format first, like WordPress or Markdown files. If there aren’t a lot of posts they could also be manually copy/pasted in but you’d need to set the date on each one.
@matt Cool! Also just in case it’s not clear, there are 2 things: Surrender is a book by Bono, and Songs of Surrender is an album of re-recorded songs. Both good, although I haven’t gotten far in the book yet.
Listening to U2’s Songs of Surrender. I think I was expecting a kind of “Taylor’s Version”-style re-recording, but it’s more a new take like you’d hear at a concert. Love this. 🎵
@MikeElgan @KevinMarks Yep, we’ve been on the fediverse for a few years, but recently we’ve made a bunch of improvements so now we’re enabling it for all previous users. Before it was opt-in for your own domain name only.
@paul Kind of obvious but universal links weren’t really designed for when the client and server apps aren’t basically a single pair of apps run by the same company. 🙂 My 2 cents, universal links often get in the way and might need an overhaul to not create more problems than they solve for Mastodon.
@marc0janssen Not really. Just haven’t figured out if there’s a good emoji for it. I think long-term we need to expand to non-emoji keywords when there’s no great fit.

@cchelberg There’s this blog post and the docs, but poking around was actually the best way for me because then you can see how it works with real feeds.
@crossingthethreshold It has an RSS reader in it, and an interface for managing feeds and publishing custom timelines of news. This post from Dave is another intro.
Playing with FeedLand reminds me that Micro.blog doesn’t have OPML export. The reason is because some people might have private-ish RSS feeds that power their account. This is rare but I wanted to be careful about exposing the URLs. Need to first add OPML that only includes obviously-public feeds.
