I’m currently halfway through my first Gentoo install. Coincidentally, also my first GNU/Linux install on a system with Nvidia graphics…
@email@example.com It took me a little more than 12 weeks…
@firstname.lastname@example.org imagine dealing with openbsd and nvidia
I couldn’t get the screen to stop freezing. I even swallowed my pride and went to Super Weenie Hut Jr’s to sip a sundae while I emerged sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin. To my delight, it didn’t work with that kernel either. GRUB is my new prime suspect.
Oh dear 😅
I don’t remember getting Linux and Xorg running with an NVIDIA GPu this bard 😂
I ditched the Super Weenie Hut Jr. kernel and went back to a manually compiled one. Screwed around with GRUB, no luck.
dmesg suggests the problem occurs when Nouveau takes over the framebuffer console. I’ll ask about it on the Gentoo forum next time I have a few hours to spend on this.
